When teachers create a test in Ella, Ella automatically creates a task for all students to study for the test. The fields of information in the "study for test" section are used to assign that task to students. This ensures that when students plan their schoolwork, they prioritize studying for tests along with completing assignments and allocate sufficient time for all work to be completed.
The reason for the graded/non-graded options is because it has become common for teachers to create a “Study Assignment” as a “workaround” to the shortcomings of the other Learning Management Systems. In other systems, the only way to ensure that students make time to prepare for the test is to create a graded assignment that covers the material that will be on the test. Because of this common practice, we decided to give the teachers the option to continue to create study tasks as graded assignments if they so choose.
