How do I create an assignment?

Modified on Thu, 08 Jun 2023 at 01:23 PM

Before we begin, let's come back to some important questions: Why does Ella do it this way? Why should I care?

Assignments vary in how they look, how they're completed, how they're graded, and how they relate to each other. Ella takes this all into account, providing teachers with a number of different ways to customize when creating assignments.

As with Ella's other features, assignments are designed to help students learn and help teachers teach. That means that students have instructions, related content, additional files, and all the information about submissions, including late work, and teachers can spend more time in class going over content and less time answering repetitive questions about homework.

What else can Ella assignments do?

Two key Ella features are related activities and templates

With related activities, teachers can indicate all of the content that students can refer back to while completing assignments. Any activities that teachers have put into Ella can be referred to by the assignment, including lessons, other assignments, and tests.

Templates are another way of minimizing teacher busy work. Any Google Document that is attached to an assignment can become a template with the click of a toggle. Rather than having to create copies, print out, or deal with the formatting nightmares that come with exporting Google Docs, Ella automatically creates a template for students to download and work on. Easy peasy!
