Why do teachers create "lessons" in Ella?

Modified on Mon, 09 Jan 2023 at 03:51 PM

Most Learning Management Systems (LMS) focus on assignments and, in some cases, tests or quizzes. Ella supports creation of all three of the curriculum activity types - lessons, assignments and tests - that teachers use to educate students.

In Ella, lessons are created for a few reasons:

  • Ella is teaching students the value of organization, which is an essential executive functioning skill. Having lessons, assignments, and tests all compiled in Ella and organized by subject and by date creates a “virtual binder” that has easy access to all the course materials.
  • When it comes time to create a test, you can use the “Related Activities” feature to create a link between the test and the lessons that teach the materials that will be on the test.  So when the student goes to study for the test, they can click one button to open up each relevant lesson.
  • Once all your lessons, assignments, and tests are loaded into Ella, teachers will have the entire year’s worth of course materials organized and ready to go for the next year, making the teachers set-up work much easier in the long run.
